Job Description

Fugro currently has an opportunity for Lead Drillers to join the Land Site Characterisation Team. As a Lead Driller you will be required undertake drilling operations, on both land and nearshore projects, to industry technical specifications and Company procedures, within British Drilling Association Codes of Safe Drilling Practice and NVQ standards. Your time will be spent in the field both in the UK and internationally.

This job is for you if:

- You are seeking an opportunity which will allow you to gain broad experience of Onshore or Nearshore drilling. You may already be a Driller wanting that next step in responsibility or an established Lead Driller in need of a different challenge in a new company.
- You enjoy varied and challenging work, ranging from assessing performance and condition of drilling plant to preparing ground descriptions.

Who you’ll be working with:
You will be working alongside the Drilling Supervisor and will collaborate with other members of the team who will be a mixture of Assistant Drillers, Lead Drillers and Supervisors.

Here’s what a typical day would be like:

- Managing the Drilling team to complete drilling operations in accordance with the project plan and method statements using acquired skills appropriate to the task; instruct and coach Assistant Drillers.
- Liaising with all parties associated with the contract as detailed in the project plan, to ensure the requirements of the project are being met.
- Assessing performance and condition of the drilling plant, checking for wear and tear and identifying potential breakdowns and complete documentation as required.
- Preparing ground descriptions, drill logs and pipe logs and undertake in-situ testing; complete applicable documentation as required by the project plant

Who we’re looking for:
Essential
- An NVQ Level 2 in Land Drilling
- Experience working as an Assistant Driller either Land or Marine operations.
- Full UK driving licence
- Flexible, proactive and adaptable to meet unexpected demands with tight time constraints
- Able to work under pressure
- A willingness to work outdoors in all weathers

Desirable
- Flexible, willing to travel and stay away from home during the week. Weekends and night shift working may be required on some occasions
- Strong communication skills
- Flexibility and adaptability, specifically in response to accommodating changes to day to day work
