Main duties of the job

The role is part of a growing and evolving service therefore, we hope to recruit an individual who is proactive and flexible with excellent communication skills.

The role consists of working closely alongside the current band 4 physiotherapy assistant and other members of the physiotherapy team. Tasks include assessing exercise tolerance, also devising and carrying out exercise programmes for patients in our well-established hospital gym and the cystic fibrosis unit.

The role also consists of supporting discharges on the ward with provision of walking aids and rehabilitation. Due to this, we would expect you to be able to work independently but also integrate and work well within the wider MDT.

You will participate in our in-service training programme and be encouraged and supported with their personal development. You will have some administrative duties including and not limited to stock taking, equipment ordering, printing and photocopying. You will also be expected to manage your own diary and caseload effectively.

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 800 staff, working together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be familiar with providing exercise programmes and working with a wide range of equipment to promote fitness and rehabilitation. You will possess excellent communication skills to motivate and encourage patients to participate in exercise and rehabilitation; and to develop and promote effective professional working relationships with other disciplines and members of the team.

You will be organised and capable of maintaining accurate records (patient records, stock and audit data). You will be motivated, self-directed and enjoy working as part of a supportive team. You will be expected to contribute to making referrals to appropriate hospital and community services e.g. Occupational therapy, community physiotherapy.

You will be expected to participate in a weekend rota, with one weekend day
