Technical Lead

Redruth, United Kingdom Thought Quarter Full time

Are you commercially savvy? Do you have an in-depth understanding of delivering great digital projects at pace? This could be the perfect role for you.

Working along with the client services team to ensure work is delivered on time and to budget, the key deliverable for this role is rapid, high-quality, and maintainable software development. Because we operate a flat structure, you are not responsible for line management. Rather, you are accountable for the way we develop software as a business.

Your main areas of responsibility are:

- Supporting the Lead Strategist during and after client discovery sessions to come up with the most effective solutions for client projects
- Setting and implementing our technical strategy so we can consolidate the languages and frameworks we use
- Owning and enforcing our software development and quality assurance processes
- Ensuring we use the quickest, most effective tools at our disposal
- Breaking features up into tasks and allocating those to team members
- Reviewing code produced to ensure it aligns with our standards and best practices
- Architecting and implementing client solutions so we can ensure that security, maintainability, scalability, and technical debt have a consistent and maintainable approach
- Coordinating QA activities and processes to ensure everything works as it should
- Managing our cloud environments to ensure we are choosing the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions
- Ensuring all development work is delivered on time
- Managing your time so you spend approximately 40% of your time working on strategy, processes, and other Internal work and 60% of your time on billable client projects
- Supporting our People and Culture Director as she helps team members progress in their roles by identifying training and development needs.

**Skills and experience**

Ideally, you will have been working in a technical leadership role for at least 2 years and have extensive software engineering experience in an agency or outsourcing environment.

You will also need:

- Broad knowledge of software development tools, languages and frameworks
- Broad knowledge of content management systems including WordPress, Umbraco and similar
- In-depth knowledge of the Microsoft stack, including C#,.Net Core, and Azure DevOps
- In-depth knowledge of either (or both) Azure or AWS, with a proven track record of using PaaS to speed up development and build more maintainable solutions
- Expert knowledge of source control systems (GIT) including branching and merging strategies
- A track record of shaping a team culture of accountability, high performance, and quality
- A track record of introducing technical innovation into teams to increase the pace od delivery and maximise quality
- Experience building both user-facing web platforms and internal business tools.
- Live up to our “own it” principle by embracing autonomy and being comfortable delivering outcomes and results
- Live up to our “bias for action” principle by being an advocate of agile concepts - conversation over documentation, people over process, working software as the primary measure of progress
- Be comfortable leading a team in a flat structure, where what you do holds much more sway than what you say
- Be looking for a progression journey which will stretch and reward you as the business grows
- Be realistic about what it’s like to work in an agency environment - agencies are imperfect businesses, sometimes priorities have to change, and often pragmatism is required to balance different priorities.

**Working arrangements**

Our teams work from the office at least 2 days a week, although you’re welcome to use the office as much as you like. This means you must live within a reasonable distance of our office in Pool, Redruth.

We’re open to full

**Salary and benefits**
- Salary £45-65k (pro-rata for part-time roles) depending on experience. Salaries are reviewed each and every month by the board
- 38 day’s holiday (30 days’ leave + 8 bank holidays, pro-rata for part-time roles)
- Private healthcare
- Monthly team socials and an annual summer party
- A £300 training and wellness budget to spend on **anything** you like
- Flexible working, allowing you the autonomy to choose where and when you work
- Quarterly progress reviews to help you progress in your role
