DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To clean and care for all flexible scopes which includes the washing of endoscopes and the use of the automated endoscopic reprocessor. 2. To ensure that all scopes are tracked and traced to each patient.

3. To ensure the safe transportation of scopes between clinical areas. 4. To undertake daily/weekly/monthly tests on automated reprocessor and the recording of results.

5. Ensure all Health and Safety procedures and/or potential hazard situations are reported the Theatre Manager/ Decontamination Co-ordinator. 6. Liaise with External service providers, such as Steris and Robotic scope decontamination services and ensure safe service delivery.

7. Communicate and ensure adequate sterile instrument supplies available, escalate to theatre co-ordinator/manager if necessary. 8. Maintain cleanliness around the decontamination area.

9. Restock cupboards and storage area as necessary including the reordering of necessary items. 10. Work on own initiative seeking advice as necessary in the co-ordination of TSSU equipment as necessary.

11. Provide help and support to other staff members working within the decontamination department. 12. Demonstrate the mandatory competencies of the Trust, attending all required mandatory updates.

13. To collect, sort, inspect and make available medical devices and surgical Instruments for collection. 13. Ensure the safe distribution of sterile goods and flexible endoscopes around the Trust.

14. Ensure the safe storage of sterile packs and flexible endoscope in the relevantareas across the trust. 15. Report machinery and Instrument faults to the Supervisor or DecontaminationCoordinator.

16. Deal with enquires and taking necessary action to meet the requirements of the users of the service 17. The use of computers to log production, scan equipment at all stages of thedecontamination process to ensure full traceability. Physical Effort / Skills 1.

Regular combination of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, pushing and pulling 2. Requirements to exert moderate physical effort involving lifting and handling equipment and stock items. 3. Need for excellent hand and eye co-ordination in order to ensure accuracy and speed when handling scopes and medical devices in order to maintain service delivery to all service users.

4. Working with high risk equipment and exposure to bodily fluids. 5. Lifting of Scopes, scopes trays and medical devices and containers, trays and the repackaging of equipment safely to transport back to the clinical area.

Education and Development The Decontamination Assistant is responsible for his/her personal development by attending all required mandatory updates and it keeping a personal portfolio in line with their job outline. To maintain compliance to all statutory and mandatory training as defined by the organisation and service needs. Personal 1. Be aware of ones own limitations, maintain confidentiality and adherence to Trust policies and procedures Environment Support: 1. Be responsible for self and others through identifying risks and undertaking work activities in a safe manner. 2. Maintain cleanliness in the work environment, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients, adhering to infection prevention control policies and guidance in line with Trust health and safety policies.

3. Undertake cleaning of equipment/environment as per Trust policy. 4. Reports all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy to shift coordinator or senior staff.

5. Contributes to the continuous improvement of services. 6. Undertake all training required to perform duties effectively to the requirements of the post, including but not limited to attending all required mandatory training courses.

7. Demonstrates the agreed set of values and accountable for own attitude and behaviour.
