Hughes Safety Showers have over 50 years’ experience manufacturing industrial showers and eyewashes to suit all environments. **Key responsibilities of the Mechanical Draughtsman**:
Reporting to the engineering manager, the key deliverables of this position will be to:
- Review sales orders and produce GA drawings to meet customer needs
- Create bills of materials (BOM) for assemblies based upon approved GA and manufacturing drawings.
- To review returned customer comments on submitted drawings and to review the impact on cost and capability when needed.
- Support sales with quote drawings during a bid process
- Support the Product Management team in the realisation of Value Engineering activities.
- Support the Sales Team in the development of a controlled, centralised repository of standard drawings to aid in an efficient quotation process.
- Support the Production Team in the creation of detailed manufacturing drawings to support the available GA drawings.
- To review Engineering Change Notes (ECNs), modifying standard drawings in line with recognised requirements.
- To assist in the creation of marketing material which may include, but not be limited to, rendered assemblies and exploded drawings.
- Support the production engineer to produce SOP’s
- Support with the upkeep and improve robustness of the companies SolidWorks content utilising EPDM and establishing best operating practices.
You will also provide support for the team:
- Passing on knowledge and experience
- Process efficiency
- First time drawing accuracy
- First time BOM accuracy
- Best practice development and continuous improvement

**Education and experience required**:
- Qualified in a relevant discipline, mechanical engineering, for example
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a high variation, low volume manufacturing environment
- Experience of creating BOM’s within an ERP system and an understanding of BOM structures
- Evidence of supporting process improvements in drafting and CAD data management activities
**Essential skills**:
- Excellent working knowledge of SolidWorks and the SolidWorks PDM environment
- Strong IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Organised and thorough, with a methodical approach and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in written and verbal formats
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
**Desirable skills**:
- Certified SolidWorks Associate/Professional/Expert
- Experience in supplying to the petrochemical industries and equipment for hazardous areas
- Understanding of Sage ERP system
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Ability to conduct FEA/Structural Analysis
