**Support Worker for Young Person - HITCHIN**

An exciting opportunity is available for the role of Support worker, caring for a young person with learning disabilities, after school and in the school holidays.

**The Client**

The client is a fun and chatty 16 year old female, who is registered as severely sight impaired, and has learning disabilities and epilepsy.

She is dependent on an adult to promote her safety and assist with the activities of daily living.

Social and recreational pursuits are an important element of the client's care, as she enjoys communicating, building new friendships, and learning new skills.

The client lives with her family and dogs in Shillington, Hitchin.She loves singing, horse riding, outdoor activities, creating stories and talking about pop culture.

**The Role**

The role requires a commitment to build an appropriate friendship and rapport with the client, provide a high standard of therapeutic support in line with the relevant professionals guidelines, and work in a respectful and professional manner with the clientand family.

Tasks may include collecting the client from school, accessing fun activities in the community, assisting with personal care, and adhering to guidance and care plans implemented by professionals.

The role requires creative thinking and initiative, to engage the client in activities that will enhance their experience and promote expression and independence.

The ability to remain calm, and supportive, with excellent listening skills is paramount.

Full training, support and guidance will be provided from the Case manager who will oversee the role.

**Essential**
- Must have experience working with young people with additional health and/or learning needs.
- Must be reliable, punctual, professional and friendly
- Must be safety and risk aware, with an understanding of the responsibility associated with caring for a vulnerable young person.
- Must have excellent communication skills, caring, with good initiative and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a small team.
- Must be fluent in English - both written and verbal.
- Must be comfortable being around the family dogs.
- Must have a Clean driving licence
- Must have a satisfactory DBS check and eligibility to work in the UK

**Desirable**
- Experience working with young people with learning disabilities
- Experience in working with people with Epilepsy, and with those whom are sight impaired.
- Flexibility to occasionally adjust or increase hours in accordance with the client and family’s needs.

**Location**: Shillington, Hitchin

**Contract type**:Permanent Contract

**Support Worker Hours and Pay **
- Term time
- Monday to Friday 2.45 or 4pm
- 8pm (These shifts will be shared between 2 support workers, days negotiable)
- School Holidays
- Monday
- Friday 10am-2pm (shared between two support workers, days negotiable)
- £15/hour

Successful applicants will be contacted for a video call interview, initially.

If successful, the second interview stage will be a face to face meet and greet with the client and family.
