**Job summary**:

The Engagement Lead role provides insight into higher level decision making in order to influence the management of the department’s accounts and financial reporting.

The role is challenging and influential position, working within a central and collaborative team who have responsibility for consolidation of the Departmental resource position. The team maintains a strategic understanding of the Financial and FTE impact of submitted plans to support departmental reporting and senior decision making.

The team is responsible for ensuring that the Department’s funding and performance is effectively managed and controlled internally in adherence to HM Treasury regulations. Successful stakeholder engagement is a key part of the role as it includes managing the relationships with internal expert domains, stakeholders across the business and senior leaders.

Continuous improvement and transforming ways of working is an important aspect to the role, ensuring that the Department position is captured efficiently, effectively and most importantly, accurately.

The Finance Business Partner will provide financial support and advice on contracts, worth £230m, by external providers on behalf of DWP. The postholder will be primarily responsible for the validation of costs via scrutiny and challenge of supplier open book management information and month end processes (including forecasting and invoice payment). They will also be expected to provide critical financial advice and support to the Account Manager/Budget Holder.

Both roles require independent and proactive individuals, who are adept at acting on their own initiative whilst making meaningful contribution to the work of the wider team.

**Job description**:

- Have direct and effective engagement with a number of senior stakeholders, building strong working relationships and providing effective support and challenge.
- Lead activity to Support FM&P to produce demand plans that are fully understood and in line with the Strategic Finance planning intention.
- Gain a detailed understanding of the DWP functions, priorities and strategy and how plans contribute to delivery.
- Maintain an understanding of reasons for movement in funding, forecast, plans, and FTE.
- Proactively react to political and economic change understanding the impact to delivery.
- Develop a strategic understanding of the departmental position through effective stakeholder management, ensuring that accurate plans and identification of potential risks or opportunities are reported in the most effective and efficient way.
- Interpret and analyse data in order to draw key conclusions to inform senior management. Explore different options and outline costs, benefits, risks and potential responses to each.
- Review month end reports and interpret business returns in order to challenge and understand forecast movements and how they impact in year and future year plans, Monitor and oversee both internal and external budget movements in adherence to HMT requirements.
- Quality assure advice provided by others, on key responsibilities.
- Provide strategic and financial advice to the Account Director and drive forward issues on their behalf.
- Lead on meetings with various stakeholders including Finance Managers in order to challenge financial information and forecasts.
- Support G7 in all financial aspects as and when required.
