We are looking for a permanent systems and software engineer for a company based in Bristol City Centre. This is a full-time role with daytime hours.
The aim of the role is to design and build integrated hardware and software solutions and user interfaces to meet the functional requirements of training products.
Familiarity with a variety of operating systems and platforms, a strong analytical mindset and a keen eye for detail are important.
**MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Take ownership of hardware designs and integration into products, including processes and procedures necessary to ensure clear instruction with regards to manufacturing and testing of a design.
- Assist in feasibility studies to provide innovative solutions for product development.
- Design creative prototypes according to specifications or for research purposes.
- Perform unit and integration testing (including snagging) in accordance with project schedules.
- Conduct functional and non-functional testing, and document accordingly.
- Seek specialist external help where necessary and manage subcontractors and suppliers associated with systems design and development.

**TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE**
**Essential**
- Relevant degree level qualification (EEE, IMEE, Mechatronics or similar background) with at least 5 years
- commercial experience working in electronic design.
- Use of ECAD - Schematic Capture/Board Layout. EAGLE (preferred), Altium, OrCad etc.
- Full product life-cycle experience - Design for manufacture.
- EMC certification experience.
- Board level testing and rework - SMT.
- Use of standard electronics tools - Oscilloscope, DMM etc.
- Real-time embedded C - Bare Metal.
- Audio Electronics.
- Motor Control.
- Power electronics - DC-DC, Battery powered devices.
- Microcontrollers - PIC32, ESP32 or Similar.
- Communications protocols - I2C, SPI, I2S.
- Experience with managing software version control - Git.
- Delivery of design documentation - Use of standard software design tools e.g. UML, flow charts, hierarchy diagrams etc.
- Excellent communications skills; able to communicate with a mixed discipline team both within and external to the company.
- Knowledge of quality management methodologies.

**Desirable**
- PC Utilities - Python.
- RTOS.
- Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, TCP/IP.
- Front end development - HTML/ Java Script.
