**Intro**

Working within the supply chain team, the Technical Buyer will lead continuous improvements to the overall function by driving manufacturing advisory services along with tactical and strategic supplier management and support focused on reducing overall cost for everyone involved. To be successful in the role you will be a fabrication & machining expert who enjoys thinking outside the box with your team to solve practical engineering problems that appear to have no standard solution.

**What would a typical day look like?**
- Manage the manufacturing drawing package from drawing submission to finished part by selecting suppliers, receiving quotes, re-validating quotes, creating purchase orders, tracking parts through each manufacturing processes, and supporting the kitting process.
- Drive continuous improvement within the supply chain function, through improving supplier relationships, sourcing agreements, pricelists
- Review manufacturing drawings for ease of manufacturability and costs against budget, while evaluating material, geometry, finish, heat treat, coating, tolerance, and overall functionality.
- Proactively research, onboard, and develop suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Collaborate with internal design teams to provide feedback and leadership on manufacturing/assembly improvements during the design phase to drive cost improvements and build success.
- Collaborate with internal project managers/engineers to provide full visibility of order status and completion dates, expediting to meet project timelines.
- Manage and track machining/fabrication schedules, purchased part deliveries with respect to the project schedules (build start).
- Participate in Design Review discussions associated with design for manufacturability to ensure that fabrication and manufacturing of relevant details are consistent with design, cost, and delivery targets.
- Track defects and other anomalies related to build projects that are associated with machining and fabrication - and participates in Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA).
- Interpret technical data, specifications, and other information to generate cost options and recommendations.
- Investigate new technology advancements and processes and how they may be utilized to improve the manufacturing process.
- Coordinate with cross-functional business teams to develop the best economic strategy for project sourcing planning to support customer demand.

**What qualifies you for this opportunity?**
- 5+ years’ experience with machining / fabrication best practices
- Experience working within the procurement, or at least provided technical support to the supply chain function
- Experience or knowledge of working with ERP or inventory management systems
- Knowledge of mechanical assembly and basic electrical knowledge
- Qualified to at least HNC level in an engineering discipline, or have equivalent experience
- Excellent communication, negotiation, customer service and influencing skills
- Machining; print / drawing interpretation
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, 2D and 3D CAD
- High attention to detail and organization skills
- Continuous improvement knowledge and experience, ideally Six Sigma, Lean
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
