File Handler Assistant

Supporting Lead and Assistant File Handlers, performing specific delegated tasks, to pursue the progression and/or resolution of a file as soon as practically possible.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Reviewing documents and preparing reports
- Dealing with disclosure
- Reviewing evidence (including medical / personnel records/ Companies House records)
- Conducting investigations with MOD / obtaining witness statements
- Instructing Counsel / Experts
- Research
- Drafting generally
- Attending conferences and Trials with Counsel
- Dealing with routine correspondence
- Court appointments including own advocacy
- Providing initial reports and further reports / advice to clients, when requested
- Liaising directly with the Claims Handlers and Managers
- Complying with Clients instructions
- Willing to engage in Client development when required
- Assisting team in achieving goals and objectives
- Meeting agreed targets
- To ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct 2011
- Adhere to the Keoghs Values

Activity Time Frames:

- Adaptable, follows direction of the Lead File Handlers/Assistant File Handlers and priorities own activity on a daily basis scale and scope
- Typically expects 6 chargeable hours per day, to be agreed at team local level
- Supports Lead File Handlers and Assistant File Handlers
- Works on case load of the Lead File Handler
- Completes delegated tasks within the time frame set

Working Hours
35 hours per week Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. Office location for this role is Coventry

**Experience, Skills and Qualifications**
- Recruitment Criteria:

- Ideally a degree in Law/LPC Graduates/ILEX trained
Litigation experience is desirable but not a pre-requisite to apply
- Previous experience of handling own caseload or assisting “lead File Handlers” with their caseloads.
- Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking.
- IT Literate;
- Proficient in MS Office
- Experienced in using a Claims/Case Management system
- Capabilities needed to succeed and excel in the role:

- Technical knowledge and Experience to be developed
- Basic Guidelines for court/CPR inc completion of court forms
- Client SLAs
- Basic claim and file handling skills.
- Investigation techniques
- Progression to a more detailed understanding of CPR
- Financial Management/recording of fees and chargeable hours
- Through formal input build an understanding of;
