Ehc Assessment Officer

Kennington, United Kingdom Kent County Council Full time

Advert

We are now recruiting EHC Assessment Officers within the KCC Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Service.

We have redesigned the way that we work in SEND from the bottom up and we have developed something that we think is unique in the country. It offers an unparalleled variety of opportunities working in the largest authority in the country and we have ensured that there is investment in people through our continuous professional development offer.

In this role you will be expected to manage the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHNA) process, and produce high quality Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans within statutory timescales. You will be expected to work across all age ranges and phases of education, which will cover from Early Years to Post 16. You will need to write the EHC plan using the information gathered as part of the assessment and work collaboratively with wider professional agencies to ensure the outcomes specified in the EHC plan are identified and delivered.

The position of an EHC Assessment Officer is a highly demanding role and you will have responsibility for a large caseload. It will be essential that you have high levels of organisational and effective time management skills. Frequent communication will be required with parent/carers, education providers, wider professionals and colleagues.

You will be required to understand and utilise data sets that are given to you to assist your daily work. Furthermore, you will be expected to initiate, organise and represent KCC at meetings in relation to the SA process, with key stakeholders, both internal and external. These will include meetings such as co-production meetings, Ways Forward Meetings, tribunal discussions and other operational meetings. It is essential that you have a working knowledge of all of the relevant legislation around the world of SEND including the SEN Code of Practice January 2015 and the Children and Families Act.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
