Consultant Obstetrician

The Northumbria O&G team is expanding and we are excited to offer this opportunity for a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join our team.

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service manages maternity and gynaecological departments at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham General Hospitals. We also provides outpatient services at some of our community hospitals. The range of operations performed reflects a diverse and interesting case mix from urban, industrial and rural communities.

The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) hosts the Birthing Centre comprising of a delivery suite (consultant led and co-located MLU) and post-natal ward. We have recently opened a new, purpose-built Pregnancy Assessment Unit (PAU), enhancing care for our patients and allowing the expansion of our post-natal ward to facilitate transitional care. Northumbria delivers around 3,200 babies per year.

Emergency Gynaecology is also based within NSECH working closely with the Emergency Department, Surgical Assessment Unit and the surgical ward. The Trust is a national leader in the provision of Day Case Surgery for Hysterectomies.

The service has also recently been assessed by the Getting It Right First-Time team and has received exceptional feedback. Whilst also being rated 'Outstanding' when assessed by the Trusts internal quality panel system.

The service is on the Northern deanery specialist registrar rotation and contributes to both undergraduate and post-graduate education.
