Horticulturalist / Plant Procurement Specialist

**Horticulturalist at Tom Stuart-Smith Ltd**

Tom Stuart-Smith Ltd is looking for a Horticulturalist with experience in horticulture and plant procurement to join its practice of 18 designers and support staff. The studio is based at Serge Hill, near St Albans, in a recently built contemporary studio. It is immersed in a mix of established gardens around Tom’s home, The Barn, and a new horticultural growing space, The Orchard.

**You will have a key role in coordinating plant procurement on a variety of exciting public and private gardens, urban spaces, and historic landscapes in the UK and overseas. Part of this role will include regular visits to nurseries, in the UK and abroad, to coordinate between our suppliers and project designers.**

You will also need to visit project sites and help with the setting out of plants. For completed gardens you will have a role in the ongoing maintenance, liaising with gardeners to give expert advice.

**Essential skills and attributes**:

- Kew Diploma or Wisley Diploma in Horticultural Practice or equivalent professional experience and training.
- Excellent all-round horticultural knowledge.
- Excellent knowledge of plants and identification of temperate horticultural flora.
- Understanding of biosecurity issues and plant disease.
- Dedicated, organised, self-motivated and willing to work across a range of projects.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively both individually and with a team.
- Helpful but not essential to have some knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Essential to have a good understanding of Microsoft Excel.
- Fluency in English language.
- Eligibility to work in the UK and Europe and possession of any relevant visas.
