**Position Overview**

We are seeking a Freelance Bike Tour Mechanic with experience working on Elephant Bikes and electric bicycles. This role involves maintaining our fleet of bicycles used for guided tours, providing repairs in advance of tours, and potentially interacting with tour participants to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. If you have a strong background in bike mechanics and enjoy working with people and as part of a team, we'd love to hear from you.

**Responsibilities**:

- Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on our fleet of bicycles, including brake adjustments, gear tuning, tire checks, and chain lubrication.
- Elephant Bikes Maintenance: Perform specific maintenance and repairs on Elephant Bikes to keep them in top condition.
- Electric Bikes: Handle basic repairs and maintenance and also when required, assist with troubleshooting for any battery issues and motor problems.
- Safety Inspections: Ensure all bicycles are safe to ride before tours.
- On-Tour Repairs: Provide on-the-spot fixes during guided tours, addressing flat tires, broken chains, misaligned gears, and other issues that may arise.
- Customer Interaction (if applicable): Engage with tour participants and other staff to answer questions, provide advice, and ensure a positive experience. This may include some training to other staff members.
- Equipment Management: Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools, and order new supplies as needed.

**Essential skills**:

- Experience: Significant experience in bicycle mechanics, with specific knowledge of Elephant Bikes and a basic understanding of electric bicycles.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in a wide range of bike maintenance tasks, including gear tuning, brake alignment, wheel truing, and chain replacement.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly diagnose and repair issues during tours to minimize disruptions.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to staff and tour participants in a clear and friendly manner.
- Flexibility: Willingness to occasionally work non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays, based on tour schedules and occasionally work as part of a team and occasionally alone.
- Hard work ethic, good sense of humour and good team worker

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Certification from a recognized bicycle mechanic school or program.
- Prior experience in a customer-facing role, ideally in a bike shop or with a bike tour company.
