**Our Business**

The Port of Dover, and our subsidiaries, deliver effective gateway and traffic services for our customers. Processing up to 10,000 Lorries per day, 120 ferry crossings, 130 cruise ship calls each year, 335k tonnes of refrigerated cargo, and a vibrant marine leisure sector. It is a 24 x 7 business, facilitating over £120 billion in trade each year.

It is an asset intense, fast pace operation facilitating the highest volumes of traffic and vessels of any ferry port in Europe. Each day, the capacity of the port is turned over 5-6 times, which demonstrates the intensive use of the infrastructure to produce the business volumes.

Recently, Port of Dover undertook the largest programme of investment in contemporary times, that of the Dover Western Docks Revival (DWDR). This programme will see the operational land base capacity expand by 20%, deliver new refrigerated cargo infrastructure, provide a new 250 berth marina and create opportunity for further property development.

**Job Purpose**

The primary purpose of the role is to protect life and property, prevent and detect crime, maintain order and prosecute offenders against the peace. The post holder will be a public facing representative of the Port of Dover and will provide a high visibility _Reassurance Policing_ service for port customers and for the wider port community. This will include enhancing the delivery of protective security and helping maintain traffic fluidity. The post holder will be part of a team who will deliver the vision of the Head of Policing in line with departmental objectives.

**Duties of the Post Holder**
- working in partnership with the Port community.
- providing a visible presence to deter crime and reassure the port community.
- conducting patrol duties on foot or by vehicle.
- developing community knowledge to identify individuals and locations at risk of being involved in crime.
- responding promptly and appropriately to emergencies and other requests from the public or port community.
- keeping the peace in and around the Port of Dover.
- diffusing potentially volatile situations with due regard for the safety of all involved.
- acting with sensitivity when dealing with incidents:

- conducting initial investigations, gathering evidence, taking statements - in compliance with CPIA.
- conducting security site inspections and security compliance inspections of the Port security contractors - under the direction of the duty Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO)
- conducting security investigations under the direction and guidance of the PFSO
- interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses in accordance with relevant legislation.
- conducting arrests with due regard for the human rights, security and health and safety of detained individuals, members of the public, colleagues, and self.
- recording crime reports and preparing & presenting evidential case files.
- attending and giving evidence in court and at other hearings.
- gathering evidence and submitting criminal intelligence reports for further dissemination.
