**PLAYWORK ASSISTANT (BREAKFAST AND AFTERSCHOOL CLUB)**

**Responsible to**:The Playwork Co-ordinator

**Job Purpose**: To assist the Play work Co-Ordinator and the senior play work assistant as required with the day to day operation of the Breakfast and After schools Club.

**Details include**:
1. Support the Playwork Coordinator and senior Playwork Assistant as required.

2. Assist with the provision of safe, creative play opportunities and a programme of care and play for 4-12 year olds.

3. Assist with the setting up and clearing away of a variety of play materials and help supervise and encourage children at play.

4. Where required, assist with the supervision of homework.

5. Help deal with minor problems, accidents/sickness and report any serious incident to the Playwork Coordinator.

6. Be aware of all health and safety and first aid procedures.

7. Be aware of the administrative procedures within the kidz patch set up.

8. Undertake any relevant training as may be considered necessary by the Management Committee (training may take place during out of work hours).

9. During school holidays the successful applicant may be required to work additional hours for which appropriate remuneration will be given.

10. Any other reasonable duties required by the management committee.

**PLAYGROUP ASSISTANT (AM sessions)**

**Responsible to**:The Playgroup Co-ordinator

**Job Purpose**: To work as a key worker and as part of the playgroup team under the direction of the Playgroup Co-ordinator to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children.

1.1 To assist with the planning of the curriculum

1.2To help set up the playroom for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.

1.3 To act as a Key Worker to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met.

1.4 To advise the Co-ordinator of any concerns e.g. about children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality, as necessary.

1.5 To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.

1.6 To be aware of any special needs a child may have and to familiarise oneself with relevant play and learning plans.

1.7 To assist in record keeping as directed by the Co-ordinator.

1.8 To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is learned as part of the job.

1.9 To keep up-to-date with current good practice.

1.10 To contribute to, and implement, all policies and procedures.

1.11 To undertake such other duties and responsibilities which may be required within the context of a post of this nature.

**Personal Specification for all posts**

Applicants must:
1 NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or related discipline.

2 A passion for safe, engaging and enjoyable care for children.

3 Have recent experience of working or volunteering with children preferably in a play work or playgroup setting.

4 Have a knowledge and understanding of current childcare legislation (Children Order and social services requirements, and childcare practice and provision).

5 Display good communication, leadership and organisational skills.

It is desirable that applicants:
Have an NVQ level 5 in Child Care or related field or have a desire to work towards this qualification to avail of relief Deputy opportunities.

Have practical experience in Art and Craft/Display work, music, drama or games.
- Have practical experience in IT._
- Have a good general education._
- Hold a first aid certificate._

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: £10.42 per hour
