**Post Title**: Young Black UH Graduate Co-opted Governor**Duration**: Two years (January 2024 to 31 December 2025)**Salary**: Non Salaried voluntary role**Location**: Hatfield- Would you like to inform and influence the governance processes at UH and help guide future decisions? The University of Hertfordshire’s Board of Governors recognises that a diverse range of voices improves governance processes. The Board also recognises that it has gaps in diversity of views particularly relating to age and racial diversity.- To address this, in September 2022 a Young Black UH Graduate Co-opted Governor Scheme was introduced. Due to the success of this pilot scheme, we are seeking another Black UH Graduate Co-opted Governor who will serve a term of two years.- We are excited to offer this opportunity, which is open to all non-staff Black UH graduates who are under the age of 30 at the closing date. We anticipate that the successful Governor would gain valuable skills, knowledge and experience that would help them in their future career.**Main duties and responsibilities**
- The Board of Governors is the University's governing body and is responsible for determining the educational character and mission of the University and for overseeing its activities. The Board is responsible for the effective, efficient and economical use of the University’s funds. It sets and monitors the University’s strategic direction to ensure the sustainable delivery of its core objectives, making appropriate provision for the support, advice, guidance and welfare of students.-
**Skills and experience sought**- 1 Be able to demonstrate the capability of being a strategic thinker;- 2 Have an interest in and commitment to (Higher) Education and to public service;- 3 Be able to exercise responsibility with independence and discretion;- 4 Be able to act as a positive advocate for the interests of the UH BAME community; and- 5 Have a willingness to learn valuable skills, knowledge and experience that will help you in your future career development.**Additional information**
- The successful applicant will be assigned at least one mentor who is a member of the Board and will be supported and encouraged to attend external Governors’ training programmes.- The Board meetings will usually take place in person in Hatfield (at 17:00 hours) but with a facility to join remotely if necessary. There are typically 7 formal Board meetings per year.- As being a Governor is a voluntary position there is no remuneration however some expenses (e.g., travel) can be claimed in line with all UH Governor positions.-
