To provide advanced level specialist assessment, treatment and education of patients referred with orthopaedic problems. These may have acute open or closed minor injuries or complex / chronic elective presentation. To determine clinical diagnosis and orthopaedic management/treatment indicated, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. To work independently and alongside consultants in clinic in an extended role, listing for surgery, requesting investigations and any further management.

To work within the ACP framework and act as an expert practitioner demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills within musculoskeletal physiotherapy with a specific specialism in the field of hand conditions. This includes the integration of research evidence into practice via the process of advanced clinical reasoning and decision making. To use this knowledge to provide an advisory service to patients, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals, GPs and consultants. To attend RCHT service level discussions/meetings relating to your area of work independently and as delegated by the relevant Senior Operational Manager.

Within the ACP framework, to support research and to contribute to the future development of the service. To contribute to the establishment of protocols, guidelines & patient information for the development of the service. This role will support Orthopaedic Surgeons by screening the routine elective referrals to potentially prevent or slow the conversion to surgery as well as prepare patients proceeding to surgery for their aftercare.
