**Job Description - Modern Apprentice Early Years Worker**

**1. Identification**

Service: FARE Scotland Nursery

Post Title: Modern Apprentice Early Years Worker

Responsible to: Nursery Manager

Working hours: 30 hours per week

**Salary**: TBC

**2. Purpose of the role**

To undertake your role within FARE Scotland (FARE) supporting them in the opening of their first nursery within Bannantyne House. The apprentice will support the creation of an inspiring early years learning setting for children, both indoors and outdoors, whilst providing value for money for families.

To support, promote and develop productive working relationships with colleagues, parents and guardians through the facilitation of an educational activities that encompass the local community and fosters the positive development of relationships across the learning network.

Work in accordance with FARE’s policies and procedures, providing activities that are safe, fun and challenging for children, encouraging their development for transition into a primary school setting.

To work in accordance with the values and principles of early years learning and maintain a professional approach in line with the standards required of a competent early years practitioner.

**3. Main Duties and Responsibilities**

To ensure that a welcoming environment is created for the children and parents/carers on a daily basis.

To play a key role in the planning and organisation of activities and resources in line with current practice.

To support the delivery of high-quality learning and play sessions for children indoors and outdoors

To have an understanding of children’s individual needs and the importance of inclusion.

To undertake observations of individual children, recording progress and completing assessments as required in relation to their development needs and achievements.

To help with the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of our practice and performance.

To ensure that childcare opportunities are conveyed to parents and carers and understand that feedback is vital to the development of the Nursery and its services.

To ensure the security and safety of children at all times and to have input into the completion and updating of risk assessments and nursery policies.

To ensure the prompt and comprehensive reporting and recording and incidents/accidents of concern, to the Nursery Manager as and when applicable.

To help in the serving of lunch and to ensure snacks are prepared and cooked appropriately and that individual needs are met within the health and hygiene guidance.

To be responsible for ongoing professional development and undertake training as appropriate, and ensure that you comply with SSSC requirements for professional development.

To attend and contribute effectively to staff meetings and organisational development days.

Adapt to changing needs and requirements as the position and organisation grows and develops.

Promote the objectives of FARE as stated in its constitution.

To assist in activities which will promote the personal, social, educational and material welfare of local people.

Maintain all records in accordance with legal and regulatory guidelines.

Participate in fund raising activities.

Undertake any other duties as specified by the FARE Senior Management Team.

**4. Administration Responsibilities**

Comply with all relevant legislation and FARE policies at all times.

Undertake all training and development opportunities as agreed with your line manager and in line with the requirements of the Modern Apprenticeship.

Submit all necessary statistical information and/or paperwork.

Complete all relevant administrative paperwork in respect of hours worked, absences and annual leave.

Adhere to all legal, regulatory and ethical practice in relation to your role as an early years worker.

- Good communication and presentation skills
- The ability to remain calm while working through challenges within the workplace.
- Ability to be clear and concise when communicating with children and colleagues.
- The drive and initiative to work independently.
- Ability to share learning and develop practice through feedback.
- The ability to be clear and concise when communicating with children and colleagues and supporting the dissemination of information to others.
- Good IT skills in Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
- Willing to be flexible in undertaking the early years engagement methods employed by the project.
- Willing to undertake development opportunities with the project to enhance the services being delivered in the early years setting.

**Knowledge**
- SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF Level 7
- Core Skills Level 5 in Information & Communication Technology (if required)
- Core Skills Level 5 in Numeracy (if required)
