About the role

We are currently recruiting for a temporary Mechanical Draftsperson to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Engineering Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC, specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems, including the world-leading Banshee target.

QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide, with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will p rovide support to the Mechanical Engineering team to update drawings and process changes.

**Duties will include**:
Provide support to the mechanical engineering team in all forms of drawings and drafting.

Perform mechanical component development and integration; use Computer-aided-Design (CAD) specifically Solidworks.

Hands on with mechanical development and integration assignments

Process Engineering Changes to completion as required by the business

Update legacy drawings and bring them to the current design standard

Provide support to production and purchasing where drawings and other mechanical information is required

What do I need?

You will have proven experience in CAD design and drafting, as well as PDM.

You’ll also have knowledge of design and drafting standards and have effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion.

**We also ask that you have**:
knowledge of product data management (PDM Works)

strong knowledge of CAD, preferably Solidworks

experience working in a manufacturing environment and familiarisation with DFM

It would be an advantage if you have knowledge of the following areas:
Composite Products

Additive Manufacturing

Welded Structures

Sheet Metal

Machined Components

Finite Element Analysis

Aeronautical design and aerodynamics

A drafting and CAD design training/certification would also be advantageous.
