**JOB DESCRIPTION: Head of Finance and Operations**

**Location** Remote (UK based), with offices available in Bristol

**Salary** £50,000-£60,000 per annum (Incl. market supplement)

**Hours** 37 hours per week,** **a job-share will be considered

**Reports to** Director of Corporate Resources

**MAIN PURPOSE OF POST**

We are seeking a Head of Finance and Operations to join our small, highly dedicated team and oversee the financial reporting, forecasting, planning and financial analysis of Women’s Aid.

This role will report into the Director of Corporate Resources and will ensure reliable and timely financial information is provided to support internal decision making at Board and senior management level.

As Head of Finance & Operations, you will be responsible for the production of the annual budget and reforecast process, as well as acting as business partner to our budget holders. You are responsible for ensuring a robust finance control framework is in place, production of monthly and year end accounts, reporting to funders and liaison with our external auditors. You will develop, implement and strengthen internal systems and controls across finance and operations.

**DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Financial Management**
- Work with the Director of Corporate Resources on the development and implementation of a financial strategy and reserves policy to support Women’s Aid in achieving the aims of the business plan;
- Ensure finance systems, budgets, cash flows and other finance mechanisms and reporting are in place and robustly managed;
- Ensure prudent financial management policies and procedures are in place and to ensure effective internal financial control frameworks;
- Ensure timely and accurate financial management information including regular management accounts and forecasts are provided to the CEO, Executive Leadership team, Senior Managers and the Board;
- Responsible for ensuring effective treasury management that meets the organisational objectives and maximises returns;
- Improving current budgeting/forecasting spreadsheets and reporting.

**Operations**
- Support the Operations Manager in the development and implementation of policies and procedures;
- Support the Operations Manager in planning, developing and implementing strategies for Information Technology, ensuring a cost efficient and fit for purpose IT function (currently outsourced);
- Contract management: ensure all partner and supplier partner contracts are well managed;
- Compliance with Health & Safety & GDPR

**Line Management**
- Carry out management, supervision, appraisal and development of the Finance and Operation Teams to ensure high quality services.
- Establish operational plans for the Finance and Operations teams with clear targets, monitoring cycles and performance management.
- Lead, Support and develop the Finance & Operations teams to build an effective central support team.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION: Head of Finance and Operations**

**EXPERIENCE**

**Essential**:

- Substantial experience of financial management at a senior level.
- Working in the charity sector at this level as well as working with senior management and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong practical & applied understanding of charity finance, SORP and the management of restricted and unrestricted income.
- Full working knowledge of preparing management accounts, budget setting and forecasting with large and complex funding models.
- Excellent working knowledge of accounting software and excellent IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft Office.
- Experience of managing payroll and pensions.
- Experience of charity governance and best practice, compliance with HMRC, Companies House and Charity Commission.
- Familiarity with funder requirements and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines under pressure.
- Proactive and solution focussed with a strong ability to work on own initiative.
- Line management experience and proven ability to motivate team members and ensuring the team work congruently.

**Desirable**:

- Experience of managing organisational and cultural change.
- Delivering new systems in financial management across an organisation.
