We are looking for a Mass Spectrometry Research Officer to join the Edinburgh Cancer Research team.
The post-holder will assist in the operation of the mass spectrometry laboratory from experimental proteomic, lipidomic and metabolomic sample preparation through to data analysis. To support the operation of the IGC mass spectrometry facility (IGC-MS) across the IGC, University of Edinburgh and beyond. The post-holder will be trained to operate and maintain a Q Exactive, Q Exactive+ and Fusion Lumos, timsTOF SCP mass spectrometer and associated on-line and off-line HPLC systems. As well as operating Robotic Workstations (2 Kingfisher, Tecan 780, cellenONE). The post-holder will use this instrumentation to prepare and analyse samples for proteomic and metabolomic analysis using a wide variety of preparative techniques. Proteomic sample preparation techniques will include urea extraction, immunoprecipitation (& co-immunoprecipitation), off-line HPLC, FFPE protein extraction and single-cell processing. The post-holder will maintain accurate records of various parameters of instrument performance for experimental quality control. To record details of all samples and all consumables usage for audit purposes and to keep consumables well stocked. Will perform data analyses in a variety of different software packages, including Proteome/Compound Discoverer, Mascot, MaxQuant, Spectronaut, Xcalibur, Skyline, XCMS, mzMine, LipiDex and LipiBlast. To present the data to researchers in a clear format and to revisit and further mine data where required. And will keep up to date with chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques through reading, attending meetings and liaising with vendors as well undertake method development to improve the level of support for research in the IGC.
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working
