Position: Civils Foreperson (SMT)

Salary Band: £30,000 - £35,000 (depending on experience)

We are looking for someone with solid experience in civil engineering, streetworks systems and procedures with excellent verbal and written communications skills, a high level of confidentiality, discernment and judgment.

The role will involve travel, working in the outdoors and a full driving licence is required alongside strong practical problem solving and experience of managing a small team. You will ensure that all works are carried out within legal requirements and within B4RN procedures.

ROLE
- Carry out physical network installation of conduit, chambers and associated equipment in all terrains, including both private and publicly maintainable highways.
- Aid with the installation of inside and outside plant, including fibre optic cabling and splice enclosures, in the distribution of B4RN Next-generation access, Fibre to the Home broadband.
- Service and maintain existing physical network infrastructure, carry out remedial works to improve overall network protection.
- To provide line-management and training for junior members of the Civil Engineering Team.

Special Conditions
- The company's 24x7 support commitments may require participation in a rota based, on-call system that will result in call-outs outside of standard working hours.
- This post requires the ongoing possession of a full, valid driving licence.
- This post also requires the ongoing possession of an NRSWA Streetworks Operative licence to cover units 1 to 7 and 9.
- This role will require occasional evening working and working away from home.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out duct installation, jointing and terminating in both the core and distribution network by way of machine dig, mole plough, hand dig and any other suitable method, to the correct depth specified by B4RN.
- Install underground chambers with lid access for the termination of ducting and blown fibre cabling into splice enclosures.
- Lay concrete plinths in order to mount B4RN distribution cabinets and associated equipment.
- Ensure that all installations follow B4RN network designs and that the routes are within acceptable boundaries of wayleave plans agreed with landowners.
- Identify and manage the repair of problematic conduit installations in the provision of blown fibre optic cabling across the core and distribution network.
- Install core and distribution fibre cables of all sizes in every area of the network, as required.
- Ensure equipment and tools are routinely cleaned and maintained, including vehicle and trailer checks, with faults reported back to the Civil Engineering Manager for further action.
- Maintain high levels of professional conduct, including but not limited to, cooperative engagement in tasks set, the exercising of initiative to suggest, through line management, improvements to the service provided, and clear and professional styles of communication at all times.
- To assist in the evaluation and testing of new machinery, as directed.
- Consult with landowners about upcoming works regarding timescales and how the work will be carried out.
- Create job packs for upcoming works including up to date utility prints.
- Assist network engineering team with cable repairs as and when required.
- Consult with network engineering team on upcoming reworks and plan accordingly.
- Such other duties appropriate to the grade as may be directed by the Civil Engineering Manager.

REQUIREMENTS.
- You will obtain Streetworks Supervisor Level qualification within six months. Training will be provided.
- You will obtain BT PIA qualifications.
