We are looking for an experienced Government Affairs (GA) professional to complement 3M’s EMEA GA team with a special focus on the United Kingdom.

This position reports to the Senior Director for EMEA Government Affairs (and Sustainability) and provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public or government environment to a 3M career.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As Head of Government Affairs, UK (also Ireland), you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.

Here, you will make an impact by:
- Implementing Government Affairs plans with UK Government (and potentially Ireland), directed towards enhancing and protecting company's results and reputation.- Monitoring and advocating on key legislative issues, government positions and decisions and pro-actively inform GA leaders and advise internal decision makers on risks, opportunities, and actions to be taken. Special focus on the Brexit impact as well as policy / regulatory execution for example for environmental legislation, circular economy and corporate governance.- Drafting policy papers, responses, comments and other research for submission to UK & Ireland Governments and national / regional bodies related to public policy matters.- Providing counsel, insight and support to GA leadership and the management on all government-related issues and activities, including ESG-related public policies.- Working closely with GA and business leaders to identify government-related growth opportunities, raising 3M’s profile and reputation with relevant stakeholders.- Developing and maintaining relationships with key external influencers and stakeholders in the UK Government (and as possible Ireland), and in industry associations to achieve appropriate outcomes and meeting opportunities.- Ensuring active participation and representation in associations and relevant advisory bodies such as CBI, British American Business, Thames Valley Chamber and other important parliamentary groups.- Continuing the strong relationship with the U.S. Embassy in the UK (e.g. Commercial Service).- Be abreast of all major proposed or implemented regulatory changes that may impact the business post-Brexit.- Acting as Point of Contact for Compliance and working together with Ethics and Compliance’s teams to achieve the highest level of ethical standards and FCPA compliance in all activities.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- University Degree in either Economics and/or Political Science and/or Law. Master's degree or MBA degree or other advanced degree is preferred.- Profound experience in the field of government relations.- Deep understanding of policy-making processes of the UK with significant experience in various government related positions / organizations.- Fluent understanding of the government’s political agenda and its impact on business.- Good GA related networks in relevant countries (+ skills in developing relationships) - from policy makers to think tanks.- Former work experience in the government or related organizations required.- Interest and knowledge of Sustainability issues as potential extension of the role to ESG matters.- Effective comm
