_**Clinical Gym Instructor**_

**Main area **Physiotherapy Service **Site **Hallam Street Hospital, West Bromwich

**Contract **Permanent: 30hrs weekly **Hours **PT - 30 hours per week (Mon - Thurs or Tues - Friday)

We are looking for an energetic individual to join our AHP team in the position of a clinical gym instructor, who is passionate about providing a variety of physical activity and exercise interventions.

As well as health promotion advice and support to address health and wellbeing needs and support the service user in their journey through wellness and recovery.

**Main duties of the job**

**Main Duties**
- To autonomously and independently screen, respond and triage referrals from the MDT
- To be able to plan, implement, evaluate and provide programmes of physical activity tailored to service users’ needs within a therapeutic programme
- To have knowledge and ability to teach and assess the safe use of the following; multi -gym equipment; treadmill, exercise bike, rowing machine, fit ball, free weights, step box and boxing bag
- Able to assess service users level of fitness before and during exercise interventions by developing safe exercise programmes
- To have knowledge of assessing service users physiological parameters information; blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen level, pain and level of consciousness to make informed decision of participation of physical activity
- To be able to use specialist equipment; blood pressure machine, heart rate monitor, peak flow metre, hand grip test to calculate body mass index and appropriate heart rate training zones
- To be able to develop and review specific fitness programmes according to service users level of need and limitations identified by appropriate assessment
- To use relevant technical knowledge and skills to engage service users in therapeutic activity to promote independence and well being
- Have relevant knowledge on mental health legislations to make informed decisions
- Using relevant knowledge and skills to feedback back to the Occupational and physiotherapy team and wider MDT to provide updates

**Education/Qualifications**

**Essential criteria**
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent
- Group exercise Instruction qualification
- Accreditation e.g. Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity

**Experience**

**Essential criteria**
- Experience working with Adults Mental Health
- Experience of MH and physical health conditions

**Desirable criteria**
- Experience of working in a Inpatient Mental Health setting
- Knowledge and experience in completing PAR -Q assessments

**Knowledge**

**Essential criteria**
- Good skills and knowledge in Mental Health Adults
- Understanding health and safety issues
- Knowledge and experience in completing exercise prescriptions

**Desirable criteria**
- Good understanding of Multi disciplinary Team
- safeguarding of vulnerable individuals/groups

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 30 per week

**Salary**: £25,147.00-£27,596.00 per year
