**Job description**:
We are excited to offer an opening for an epidemiologist / public health surveillance scientist to work on high profile areas of infectious disease surveillance.

The post is based in the Public Health Programmes Directorate of UKHSA, working between the Immunisation & Vaccine Preventable Diseases Division and the COVID Vaccines and Epidemiology Division.

The post holder will be a core member of the SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) Watch team monitoring hospitalisation for COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and be the epidemiologist responsible for serosurveillance of COVID-19, including the coordination of data collection, analysis and reporting of population immunity.

The role will include
- taking a lead in serosurveillance across COVID-19 and other vaccine-preventable diseases,
- liaison with NHS Trusts participating in the SARI Watch hospitalisations surveillance programme,
- surveillance of SARI Watch critical care admissions
- cross-covering other areas of ARI surveillance.

To lead on the serological surveillance of coronavirus, and other vaccine-preventable diseases such as influenza, and to undertake hospital surveillance of severe acute respiratory infections as a member of the SARI Watch team.

Contribute to the development of enhanced surveillance systems and research studies of respiratory diseases, including coronavirus, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus. This post requires an individual with an understanding of respiratory disease epidemiology and surveillance, preferably in a UK context, and of sero-epidemiology.
- Lead sero-epidemiological surveillance across COVID-19 and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
- liaison with NHS Trusts participating in the SARI Watch hospitalisations surveillance programme.
- Surveillance of SARI Watch critical care admissions, and other aspects of SARI surveillance.
- Contribute to national enhanced surveillance for respiratory viral diseases including coronavirus.
- Contribute to regular routine reports and peer reviewed publications on the surveillance and epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases.
- Develop automation products such as automated sitreps.
- Identify surveillance needs within given lead areas, and support developments.
- Create surveillance system specifications and develop and oversee surveillance systems (where appropriate)
- Respond to complex or sensitive data requests.
- Conduct complex statistical analyses of surveillance data.
- Interpret surveillance data, and make appropriate recommendations.
- Assure on the preparation, quality and delivery of routine and ad hoc surveillance reports.
- Manage/supervise and train scientific and information staff in the development of outputs and statistical analysis.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
- Liaise with clinicians, laboratories and health protection teams regarding individual cases and outbreaks
- Oversee data requests and identify common themes or issues to be addressed
- Develop automated routines and solutions for surveillance data reports
