Job Description of a Responsible Individual - 10 hours per week:
Hourly Wage: £45 - £60 per hour

**The Role of a Responsible Individual**

In contrast to a registered manager, a responsible individual is not registered with Ofsted. However, they have a connection to the registration process and must submit an SC2 form when establishing a new social care service.

The responsible individual must demonstrate that they meet the specific requirements outlined in the service regulations.

**Assessing the Suitability of the Responsible Individual**

We evaluate the suitability of each responsible individual for a registration, ensuring they are capable of providing and managing the service. Each responsible individual must:

- Possess integrity and good character.
- Be mentally and physically fit to oversee the home.
- Have the capacity, experience, and skills to supervise the management of the home(s) for which they are nominated.
- Be able to meet the relevant legal requirements, which are detailed in the legislation and summarised in our introductory guides for specific types of establishments and agencies.

We assess your suitability by:

- Conducting checks, including reference checks.
- Interviewing you, even if you are already a responsible individual.

During the interview, you must demonstrate a strong understanding of:

- Laws and practices related to children in care.
- Safeguarding and child protection.
- The laws and guidelines applicable to the service you will be responsible for, including relevant regulations, national minimum standards or quality standards for children's homes, and statutory guidance.

You must also:

- Possess the skills, knowledge, and ability to run the service in a manner that upholds good practices and continuous improvement.
- Have the business and management skills to efficiently supervise the service's management.
- Demonstrate that you, or another official within the organisation, have the necessary financial expertise to ensure the service operates on a sound financial basis and remains financially viable in the long term.

As the appointed responsible individual for a registered provider, you must adhere to:

- Any conditions set for the registration.
- The regulations applicable to each establishment or agency.

We are seeking a Responsible Individual to join a new organisation dedicated to providing therapeutic residential childcare to young people in South London. The organisation's primary focus is on offering child-centered support to young individuals with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).

As the Responsible Individual, your role involves ensuring our homes meet OFSTED standards and align with the home's statement of purpose. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in driving the organisation's growth and expansion.

In your capacity as the Responsible Individual for the children's service, you will represent the organisation, ensuring the home complies with the requirements outlined in the legislation. You will provide leadership, management, support, and guidance to the Registered Managers, ensuring the home maintains a high standard of consistent care in accordance with the law.

**Requirements**:

- Prior experience as a Responsible Individual in a children's home setting.
- Thorough knowledge of Children's Home Regulations and Quality Standards.
- Excellent understanding of Ofsted requirements.
- Experience in developing, writing, and updating policies and procedures in line with current legislation.
- Possession of a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- A proven track record of developing and improving services.
