They must have recent experience of teaching RE and collective worship as well as a substantial knowledge of the RE curriculum and assessment for all pupils.

**SACRE and the SACRE Advisory Role**:
SACRE stands for Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education.

A SACRE is unique. The Law says that Religious Education (RE) must be taught in all schools. It is a SACRE’s role to advise its local authority (LA) on what needs to be done to improve RE and collective worship (CW) for schools in its area.

The SACRE’s main function is to advise the local authority on matters related to religious education, which follows the locally Agreed Syllabus, and on collective worship in schools.

In a broader sense, a SACRE’s role is to support good RE and collective worship within its schools. In order to enable SACRE to fulfil this statutory requirement, the SACRE Advisory role has been created.

The role will include:

- Giving advice on ways of teaching RE according to the locally Agreed Syllabus, including the choice of teaching materials;
- Monitoring schools’ provision for RE and collective worship as well as the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of (SMSC) of pupils;
- Advising the LA on the provision of training for teachers in RE;

- Make necessary links with local authority processes and departments to ensure effective communications with schools and cross service working.

North and West Northamptonshire Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective employees will be assessed during the recruitment and selection process in line with this commitment. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
