Hays are recruiting a Full-Time Teaching Assistant in Newport working in a mainstream Secondary / Comprehensive School, supporting a year 7 pupil with challenging behaviour and additional learning needs on a 1:1 basis. The school caters for pupils aged 11-18and offers mainstream and ALN support. The role will involve supporting a 12-year-old student with additional learning needs on a 1:1 basis, offering educational and emotional support whilst ensuring that they engage with their studies to the best of theirabilities. The pupil does have some challenging behaviour, therefore patience, empathy, and will be key to the role. The role is Full-Time, Long-Term, and a fantastic opportunity to work with a school who look to recruit from within via their agency workers,offering permanent contracts where possible. Additionally, the school prides itself on the support they offer their students through the hard work of their fantastic staff. The team are eager to welcome new passionate members to the school.
Your new role.
The role is confirmed long-term for an immediate start, working 5 days a week. However, the school are also eager to recruit Part-Time staff members, as well as those unable to start until March / April. Duties relating to this role include but are not limitedto:

- Working 1:1 with a 12-year-old Year 7 pupil with additional learning needs and challenging behaviour.
- Demonstrating high levels of patience and empathy when dealing with potentially challenging behaviour
- Creating and maintaining a safe and enjoyable learning environment
- Working closely as part of a team with other members of teaching staff.
- Assisting teachers as they implement their creative and engaging lesson plans.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience working with children over the course of the last 2 - 3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include patience, commitment, calmness,and the ability to problem solve effectively when working under pressure.
