As a Payroll Officer, you will join our dynamic team of friendly people who work together to ensure accurate pay reaches our staff on time, while assisting with payroll and pension-related queries from across the council. Training will be provided, so payroll experience is beneficial but not mandatory.

This role is available as a secondment to internal applicants in line with our secondment policy.

**About the role**:
We are seeking committed, resilient, and well organised team players to join our friendly Payroll team in delivering a professional and exceptional service to council employees and teaching staff across 64 schools in Brighton & Hove. You will be responsible for updating and maintaining accurate payroll records, assessing errors and accuracy using reports and manual calculations, responding to payroll and pension queries from internal staff and external agencies, and ensuring that we comply with current legislation.

You will be great at helping people and working under pressure, managing conflicting demands to ensure deadlines are being met. You will be required to resolve complex issues and answer sensitive queries to help those with no payroll knowledge understand. The ability to work accurately is paramount. As training is given, payroll experience is not required but customer service experience is preferred.

Training will include a mix of on-the-job learning, including but not limited to: shadowing your team, group sessions with your team leader, and formal courses run by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP).

We are continuously looking to adapt and improve our procedures and customer service to ensure we remain accessible to anyone that needs to access it. As such, any successful applicants will be provided with professional development opportunities to keep up with any changes in the service.

**Additional information**:
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
