This is absolutely an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about safety in maternity care and an advocate for women/ birthing people, and for staff who facilitate births outside of guidance.

A key component of the role would be to help women/ birthing people navigate through their choices ensuring that they are given evidence-based information, have access to to multi-disciplinary teams, agencies, and others who work with maternity service users to help them make decisions.

You will need to be an expert clinician, a master negotiator and be an agile leader who can quickly adapt to changing situations, but still maintain the ability to keep conversations and relationships going. Another key aspects would be to engage staff and to ensure that they have access to all information they need to provide safe care and help facilitate positive birth experiences.

Work closely with midwifery leadership, the Consultant Midwife for Public
Health, the Labour Ward Lead Obstetrician, Home Birth Team, Birth Centre Team and wider MDT to formulate plans for women/ birthing people that fall outside of accepted guidance.

**You will be required to**:

- Provide midwifery advice and support of the highest order to women/ birthing people and to colleagues providing maternity care.
- Provide autonomous clinical leadership and be an expert clinician and role model for midwives
- Promote midwifery-led care and building midwife confidence
- Work in clinical practice and have expert midwifery skills to support teams
- Promote autonomy in practice and encourage midwives to become confident in having difficult conversations and decision-making
- Support the integration of good practice within maternity and the Trust whilst integrating goals from national initiatives
- Accept referrals from and make referrals to other professionals where indicated.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external MDT team e.g. London Ambulance Service and neighbouring Trusts to formulate birth preferences and provide indivudualised, safe care
- Work collobratively with support structures around women/ birthing people e.g., families and/ or doulas to forge good reciprocal relationships based on respect and trust
- Work with leadership team to meet key objectives of national and local policy documents and liaise closely with user groups including the Maternity Voices Partnership and Interlink
