Applications are invited from enthusiastic and experienced Phlebotomists or equally unqualified persons willing to undertake training to join a dynamic a team of Phlebotomists with the following posts available:
- Dorset County Hospital - 2 full time posts and 1 part time post of 31 hours - Band 3

South Walks House (Dorchester) - 2 full time posts - Band 2

Weymouth Community Hospital - 1 full time post - Band 2

You will join our forward thinking, friendly and pro-active team providing a high quality and compassionate service to our patients.

We are looking for self motivated and hard working team players with good manual dexterity, excellent communication skills and flexibility to support our services at our Dorchester and Weymouth sites.

Following successful completion of their training, Band 3 staff will support the Phlebotomy service in a variety of settings for example community outpatient clinics, hospital wards and Accident and Emergency Department. Band 2 posts will specifically operate within outpatient clinics.

The service provided at Dorset County Hospital is a 7 day a week service. The service initially offered at South Walks House and Weymouth Community Hospital will initially focus on Monday to Friday. Competency in Venepuncture and cannulation skills (cannulation only applies to Band 3 posts) would be an advantage however full training and support will be provided.
- To safely and efficiently perform venepuncture on all patients requiring blood tests requested by DCHFT.
- To safely and efficiently perform cannulation on all patients as required.
- Prepare patients for venepuncture, cannulation and blood cultures ensuring they are given the opportunity to discuss their concerns and individual needs.
- To observe and report any side effects or untoward incidents which may occur as a result of the venepuncture/cannulation procedure, relating to the patient or phlebotomist.
- To contribute to the efficient running of the phlebotomy service on a daily basis.
- To adhere to the Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
- To establish a relationship of trust and understanding with patients and other staff groups ensuring that a good public image and perception of phlebotomy is maintained at all times.
- To provide an efficient and high quality service to all patients and users.
