We are seeking an Attendance Lead to join the Team Around the School and Setting (TASS), part of the innovative Education Division of Children’s Services. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work directly with schools, children and their families to overcome problems which prevent regular school attendance.

As part of a team of experienced staff, you will work alongside professionals to draw up and deliver bespoke packages of support. Attendance Leads will provide advice, guidance and support to schools and staff in educational settings to improve the attendance and outcomes for all children and play an active role in the management team, line managing staff and supervising the work of Senior Attendance Officers. The role will ensure all statutory functions of the Local Authority, in relation to attendance and legal interventions are fulfilled.

The key function of this role is to:

- Support the Local Authority and schools in meeting their statutory duties with regards to attendance by offering advise, guidance and formal support options to schools and settings.
- Support all pupils to overcome barriers to attendance and ensure all children can access full-time education.
- Take responsibility for being a single point of contact to assigned schools in an area based team.
- Manage and allocate resources to enable termly conversations with every school to identify, discuss and signpost or provide access to services for pupils who are are persistently or at risk of or are severely absent.
- Directly line manage a team, allocating resources appropriately to best meet the needs of the service.
- Have a strategic approach to improving attendance for the area and make it a key focus of all frontline staff within schools, settings, and services.

The postholder will be an effective team leader who is committed to securing better outcomes for children and young people. The role will require the management of resources, high quality service delivery and an ability to work across teams.

Your primary focus will be to work directly with our schools and settings to providing advice and guidance around school attendance and to support schools through in school working to include workshops and group work. This will involve establishing positive, effective working relationships, which will lead to improved educational outcomes.

We are looking for a skilled practitioner with a genuine interest in this area, who is experienced in working within an educational setting to support attendance and engagement with learning. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with children, young people, families and school staff. Further to this, you will have demonstrable skills in:

- Assessing individual needs and monitoring progress against desired outcomes
- Ensuring that all work delivered to settings is in line with the wider aspirations of the Education Division and exploits opportunities for integrated working with partners at every opportunity.
- Identifying work priorities and managing your own workload to meet deadlines
- Communicating complex information clearly and confidently, orally and in writing, to a range of audiences

We currently have 2 posts available based at Cavendish House, Hastings. There is flexibility for some home working as part of a hybrid working model. You will be supported through regular supervisions, case discussions and peer support.
