**Digital Library Educator - Job Description**
The Digital Library Educator is both a teacher and a digital librarian. They will be a curriculum leader; an information literacy specialist; and a manager of information services. The Digital Library
Educator will have oversight and management of the school’s digital and physical learning resources, and will liaise with the IB Coordinators and colleagues to write and develop curriculum, modeling practice that supports the digital library’s central role in learning at Halcyon.
The Digital Library Educator is responsible to the IB Coordinators.
**1. Key Responsibilities**
- To lead an inclusive digital library services programme for all members of our community
- To lead, with the IB MYP Coordinator, the school’s IB MYP Approaches to Learning programme
- To lead the IB MYP Personal Learning Programme, to include Personal Project
- To liaise with teachers to write and develop an IB curriculum which both makes full use of existing library resources and services, and drives the development of information services
- To liaise with the Extended Essay Coordinator to deliver support for students completing the
Extended Essay
- To support to the Student Wellbeing leader for the continued wellbeing and safeguarding of every student
- To liaise with the Digital Learning Coach for the effective use and promotion of Halcyon’s digital learning environment
- To support the Director in developing and maintaining Halcyon’s digital and physical learning resources in accordance with the Halcyon strategy and policy.
**2. Specific responsibilities**
**a. As an Educator to**
**-**articulate and promote the position of the library as it aligns with the school’s mission, our written learning outcomes, and our strategic objectives
- articulate and deliver intended student learning outcomes for the library, aligned with our written learning outcomes
- plan, teach and evaluate collaboratively with teachers to ensure the effective integration of information resources and technologies into student learning
- collaborate with the IB MYP and IB DP Programme Coordinator, and Project Leaders, to ensure that IB Approaches to Learning skills are being successfully mapped and taught across the curriculum, and are reflected in the choice of library resources.

- lead development of the IB MYP Personal Learning curriculum, liaising with the IB MYP
Coordinator to provide clear learning outcomes, resources and guidance for the teaching team.
- collaborate with the Digital Learning Coach to align digital resources with intended library learning outcomes
- collaborate with the Learning Coach to provide additional assistance to students with particular learning abilities
- maintain literacy as a high priority, engaging students in reading, viewing and listening for understanding and enjoyment
- deliver at least one IB class each academic year
- promote and support IB inquiry-based learning and teaching
- promote and support strategic School-wide initiatives, such as the School’s commitment to DEI
(diversity, Equity and Inclusion), cultural competence, and sustainability (through Green
Seasoning programme).
**b. As a Digital Librarian to**:
- develop and maintain an inclusive, open, vibrant library environment, presenting a collection of primarily digital resources, fully representing the diversity of the community and supporting the
School’s educational programmes
- develop and manage the physical library space, co-creating a learning environment with colleagues and students.
- interpret library information systems and technologies for students and teachers in the context of the School’s mission; the IB mission; our educational programmes; and our wider strategic planning
- develop and manage our digital resources and platforms, monitoring usage to make data-informed decisions about how to grow engagement and meet curriculum and student needs within the context of identified school priorities, and
- provide efficient and well-guided systems for organising, retrieving and circulating resources
- liaise with London Westminster library services to broaden the community's access to resources
- promote and support the joy of reading, writing and inquiry across the school community; for example, leading workshops, talks, exhibitions, visiting classes, and inviting guest speakers, so as to share learning and raise awareness
- involve students in the Library’s information systems and services to contribute to their understanding of the role of educational information services in lifelong learning and reading
- provide training and assistance to students and staff in the effective use of Library systems
