The University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Perfusion department is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual willing to undertake our two year training program. During these two years you will be required to complete an MSc in Perfusion Science based in Bristol as well as perform 150 supervised cases to acquire the necessary clinical skills to undertake the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists practical exam.

To train and qualify as a Clinical Perfusion Scientist who is capable of operating autonomously in the delivery of clinical and professional perfusion services within a multidisciplinary team.
The two year training programme comprises theoretical and practical training throughout, concluding with academic and professional accreditation examinations.
The trainee Clinical Perfusionist will develop the skills to be competent to provide the agreed quality standards.

1.1 Develop, under supervision, the knowledge and skills required of a staff-grade clinical perfusion scientist capable of the safe and effective delivery of adult clinical perfusion services within the Trust. (under direct supervision)
1.2 Develop competence in assembly, preparation and operation of cardiopulmonary bypass equipment for cardiac surgery.
1.4 Develop understanding of specialist perfusion techniques and procedures, including antegrade and retrograde cerebral perfusion, vacuum assisted venous drainage, ventricular assist (IABP) devices and blood conservation techniques.
1.5 Develop, through shadowing, the skills necessary for assessment of relevant patients’ medical history, pathology and diagnosis in order to make appropriate clinical decisions concerning the conduct of the procedure with respect to perfusion.
1.6 Develop ability to operate effectively during emergency and high pressure situations, whilst remaining composed, and communicating clearly and effectively with colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team.
1.7 Develop ability to keep relevant, accurate records of clinical activity.
1.8 Contribute to, and take responsibility for, the creation and maintenance of a healthy and safe environment within the clinical setting.
1.9 Demonstrate flexible approach to the demands of the environment, including unpredictable workload, emergency procedures, deadlines and multi-site working environment.
