Library & Information Service Assistant

**Other information**:
- This post is part time.
- The Council might require post holder to work in a variety of sites within or between localities as required, for example the Library, Town Hall and Visitor Information Centre.
- The post holder might be expected to work weekends/out of hours to attend meetings, or help manage events.
**Job Purpose**
To provide a friendly, proactive and responsive frontline library service, ensuring the best possible customer experience for all users. To engage with customers to promote reading for pleasure and informal learning to users of all ages.
To help build community links, to organise and deliver events and activities within the sites and out in the community, linking up with other agencies and organisations and helping those in society who need help and support.
Undertake duties that may be required from time to time within the general scope of the post.
1. To gain a good knowledge of Library resources, including the maintenance and presentation of stock and the Universal Library Offer in the themes of reading, health, information and digital access.
2. Positively promote the Library Service to all members of the community in person and through social media
3. Participate in the delivery of Library centred activities such as reader development activities, story times and events for children and adults.
4. To offer initial reading choice guidance in line with reader development principles to adults and children.
5. To receive customer enquiries by telephone, electronically, post or face to face. Assess and establish the reason for service requests, suitably prioritise, and take prompt appropriate action in accordance with procedures and instructions.
6. To use customer service IT packages effectively, updating and maintaining computerised systems to ensure the service performs successfully.
7. To deal with customer’s complaints in accordance with the Town Council’s Complaints policy. Advising customers of the applicable procedures and proactively resolving wherever possible or escalating to the Library Manager if required.
8. To operate with due regard to the Council’s confidentiality policies, the Data Protection Act, Safeguarding and best practice.
9. Undertake other delegated duties appropriate to the post and potentially changing work patterns as the service develops in the future.
