The role will be to build effective relationships with and actively engage all GP practices within the area to raise the awareness of the importance of early detection and screening. The post holder will work closely with ICS and GP Practices to encourage the effective use of GP Practice data on their screening uptakes, complete detailed training needs analysis for their primary care staff. The post holder with undertake, formulate and deliver bespoke training sessions and interventions that support the earlier detection of cancer, through a range of methods including face to face, remote and local on-line options. Lead, develop, plan, co-ordinate and successfully deliver designated objectives for agreed learning events for primary care professionals.

Including the ICS cancer champion program for primary care, community cancer champions and cancer care coordinators groups, whilst promoting and developing a sustainable Cancer Champion network programs within primary care and community groups. Work directly with existing ICS Primary Care Cancer Champions to promote cancer awareness and prevention, develop a network of cancer champions that meet every three months to share practice and lessons learnt. The post holder will also lead on the educational programs to promote, coach and train new Primary Care Champions Lead, plan, develop, co-ordinate, successfully deliver and evaluate specialist learning sessions on cancer awareness updates and screening promotions for primary care professionals to enhance knowledge and interventions to improve cancer outcomes with a focus on prevention, early diagnosis, screening and addressing health inequalities. Ensure that project outcomes for improvement to cancer services are implemented across the ICS; which should be continuously monitored and reviewed for improvement.

Work closely with ICS Health Inequality leads and community project managers to support the health inequalities agenda. Lead, monitor and manage practice improvement projects, following an analysis of individual practice needs, against local and national guidelines that support the GP cancer DES program and other cancer programs. Use IT Microsoft packages, and work with BI team to help develop data dashboard from a range of data from different sources including qualitative and quantitative data relating to performance compliance, experience and other aspects of quality. Assist PCNs and individual GP practices with the analysis and interpretation of complex statistics relevant to their screening data.

Using the facts make judgement on next steps for example, organise and deliver subsequent workshops and focus groups to highlight the MDT training they require to improve their uptake of the 3 main screening programs, prevention and early diagnosis Plan and organise multiple MDT/prevention meetings with the wider workforce, including Public Health, social care, acute sector colleagues and wider community stakeholders on a broad range of complex and sensitive topics. Build effective relationships with and actively engage Primary Care Networks, ICS, local cancer and public health stakeholders to co-ordinate national cancer awareness programs across the ICS that highlights the importance of cancer prevention, early diagnosis and screening and influence the content of local delivery plans. Build on effective communication skills, recognising the need to work at different levels of communication to reflect the sensitivity of the content of the conversation and the information being shared. Recognising that different staff may need further support and guidance or persuasion due to potential barriers, when sharing best practice, tools and resources to improve interventions that promote the prevention and earlier diagnosis agenda.

Work in partnership with primary and secondary care partners to support and promote more effective ways of working across the patient pathway. Keep up to date with NHSE, Macmillan and CRUK policy, evidence and NHS/ public health cancer strategies, supporting the dissemination to local partner and primary care organisations in the area, as appropriate. The post holder will ensure that they read, interpret and understand all new policies from NHSE, PHE and WMCA, so that they can develop tools and strategies to be shared across local Primary Care Networks to assess and respond to service need. The postholder will authorise and oversee expenditure for activities within specific projects within parameters set by Deputy Director (Strategic Commissioning) or other senior colleagues The post holder will take responsibility for the ordering and procurement of any resources or equipment that will be required for them to be able to fulfil their role.
