Plant Fitter

GCU are looking for an additional Plant Fitter to join our team in Birtley, to work both in the yard and on a mobile basis.

Reporting to the Depot Manager the Fitter will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, repair and testing of the Company’s plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Fault diagnosis, repairs and maintenance and occasional refurbishment of all types of civil engineering plant and small tools from Mini-diggers, dumpers, rollers, whacker plants etc.
- Carry out periodic safety inspections to all HGV vehicles to DVSA inspection manual standards
- Repairs to Commercial vehicles and HGVS
- To attend broken down or accident damaged vehicles/plant and effect permanent or running repairs as required
- To ensure that all relevant legislation and Health and Safety procedures are adhered to

Skills and experience required:

- Time served (City and Guilds) or equivalent, ideally with a **IRTEC** Commercial Inspection Qualification
- Ideally possess an HGV licence category C minimum
- Previous experience working in a relevant Fitter / Technician role.
- Be able to work with minimum amount of supervision, effectively manage time and meet deadlines.
- Have a good standard of verbal & written communication and can use computer systems to ensure compliance record keeping is maintained.
