Sevenoaks, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

Rangers within the National Trust are the custodians of our estates & landscapes.

This exciting role is based at Cobham Wood a SSSI wood pasture restoration project, formerly the deer park of nearby Cobham Hall, & historically the seat of the Earls of Darnley.

You'll be required to work occasional weekends.

What it's like to work here:Whilst primarily based at Cobham Wood you'll be required to work closely with the wider Countryside team. Our team manages the mosaic of habitat & landscape which comprises the wider Ightham Mote & North Kent portfolio of sites, with Ightham Mote as our hub.

Cobham Wood is on the Northern edge of the Kent Downs National Landscape & is widely accessed by visitors from Gravesend & Medway via the many Public Rights Of Way linking us to our neighbours including Plantlife Intl & KCC Shorne Wood.

It’s a great time to get on board as our neighbours are soon to become partners as we move toward core membership of a brand new Super National Nature Reserve (SNNR)

You'll have the opportunity to really develop your career as a Ranger. You'll have a direct influence on how this precious landscape adapts to a changing climate & be able to articulate this to our many visitors

What you'll be doing:Reporting to the Lead Ranger, you'll be geared toward practical delivery of conservation & estate management tasks, working alone or with other Rangers & mainly with our enthusiastic & knowledgeable volunteer teams.

You'll be leading & growing regular volunteer groups. Working with the Lead Ranger to develop work plans to deliver our conservation objectives, you'll ensure high standards of presentation at whichever site you may be working. Managing woodland to create habitat & to ensure a safe visit for our visitors. This will necessitate the use of chainsaws and forestry equipment and you'll use and maintain powered machinery & hand tools. You'll understand the importance of a safe working environment with the ability to undertake and record compliance tasks such as footpath and outdoor furniture inspections.
