Kendal, United Kingdom University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Adult Speech and Language Therapist to join our well-established community team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT). The successful applicant will be working baywide to cover a dynamic caseload that provides communication and dysphagia management to patients with acquired neurological disorders as well as a more general caseload.

We provide care to our patients in a variety of settings including domiciliary, outpatient clinics and remotely via telehealth as well as carrying out regular communication groups. We also have close links with a range of specialist MDT’s and services such as ACE North.

The successful applicant will be based at Kendal or Lancaster (this is negotiable) and will work closely with the team leads to provide bay wide care within people’s homes, outpatient clinics and remotely via telehealth.

We are looking for an experienced speech and language therapist with the required clinical knowledge and skills to work autonomously with patients within both dysphagia and communication.

The successful applicant will be joining a friendly and supportive team who are dedicated to providing person centred, high quality patient care.

As a team we also work closely with the acute therapists to share our knowledge and experiences and to support our patients throughout their health journey.

This post will provide an opportunity to further build on leadership skills and regularly contribute to service development.

There are extensive training and CPD opportunities available both external and in-house, which you will be supported to complete during protected time in work. Additionally, we have bi-monthly meetings for whole-team clinical supervision and service developments.

You will be responsible for supervision of band 5 SLTs, SLT assistants, and students and have opportunity to participate in service development and training within the wider acute team.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
