Background

This is a role within Norton Rose Fulbright's growing Legal Operations Consulting Practice, part of NRF Transform.

The delivery of high-end legal services is becoming increasingly complex and sophisticated. This is being driven by new ways of structuring teams, the use of new disciplines such as legal project management, and the use of new and innovative technology. Within Norton Rose Fulbright, these changes have been introduced as part of the NRF Transform program.

Legal Operations Consulting Practice

This practice aims to assist GCs and in-house teams in their role as a business partner, beyond managing legal risks. The practice offers: strategic legal consulting (advising in-house legal teams on how they can support the wider objectives of the business); legal operations advisory (advising on management of legal operations functions); and legal operations delivery (assisting in the delivery of specific projects or mandates made up of work likely to be delivered with the involvement of, or at the request of, a legal operations team).

This practice was established in 2019 and is at the forefront of the legal market. It is offering a new and exciting approach to the industry. The practice sits within NRF Transform which currently includes over 150 professionals with varied skillsets such as legal designers, technologists, pricing specialists, legal project managers, resource managers etc.

The Role

We are seeking a Junior Consultant to support the further development and growth of our Legal Operations Consulting practice.

This is a largely remote role, with regular team meetings taking place in London (usually on a monthly basis). The role also involves working closely with other offices in the EMEA region and globally.

This is an important role, working closely with mid-level and senior members of the team, and supporting the Head of Legal Operations Consulting. You will be expected to play a part in driving the continued growth of this practice and its continuous improvement, which will become a strong pillar at NRF.

The role of the Consultant is to support the practice in helping its clients (in-house legal teams) to meet the needs of their business, and to align with their organisation's strategic objectives. The role also involves supporting the practice internally with the development of its strategy and operating model through, for example, the development of the practice’s processes, templates, ways of working etc.

The role is client facing and offers exposure to a diverse range of client mandates. There are opportunities to contribute to the full project lifecycle from pitching, to scoping, design and delivery; it resembles a conventional junior management consultant role, previously not available in law firms.

The Consultant will need to understand how professional services can be delivered, and will be expected to support in-house legal teams to deliver those services through:

- supporting with the design and implementation of legal operating strategies and operating models for clients, aligned with their business priorities;
- supporting on the completion of prioritisation exercises to develop legal operations roadmaps;
- inputting into resourcing and skills development strategies including assessments of insourcing and outsourcing to achieve cost efficiencies; and
- supporting reviews of working practices including the optimisation of the people and processes supported by technology.

You will collaborate with NRF Transform teams such as Digital Solutions, Applied Technology, Legal Design and Legal Project Management to help deliver innovative and practical client solutions, products and methodologies.
