Community Phlebotomist

We have a fabulous opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant, preferably with Phlebotomy skills, to work along side Hannah and Fran (District Nurses) and their team who are friendly, forward thinking and approachable.

The team is made up of experienced and newly qualified nurses who will support within the role.

You will cover a wide rural area with fantastic Derbyshire scenery.

As part of this role you will be required to obtain blood samples from patients within their preferred place of care.

You will be based with a community nursing team working from 9-3; Monday-Friday (days to be agreed on successful recruitment).

Our team focusses on providing excellent patient-centred care to people within their own homes. Therefore, it is essential that you have a keen interest and experience in this field.

Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.

During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.

- Carry out venepuncture and other appropriate healthcare procedures in patients’ own home or in community health care settings, acting within the procedures outlined in the Phlebotomy competency framework.
- Undertake appropriate patient care assessments as required, such as baseline observations.
- Escalate any concerns regarding patients’ welfare to the registered members of the Integrated Community Team in a timely manner.
- Once a visit is complete, enter contemporaneous notes in the relevant patient information system.
- Use DCHS patient information systems as needed, including accepting e-referrals.
- Recognise the importance of confidentiality and sensitivity of issues at all times and be able to act using the utmost discretion and confidentiality.
- Additional duties and ad hoc requests may be required within this role and the need to be flexible is essential.
