Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties

The main purpose of this role is to work with the InGAME team and other partners to investigate media archiving and collections engagement through digital and immersive experiences. The goal is to define value, methods and challenges relating to the digital archiving of immersive and temporal experiences, bringing together academics, practitioners, industry, and archivists. The role will also involve mapping the scope of such work to develop plans for future funding bids in response to the UKRI’s announcement that it intends to invest in cultural and heritage institutions.

Working within the core InGAME team and alongside an interdisciplinary and diverse team of postdoctoral researchers and industry-experienced developers - you will support knowledge exchange, cluster engagement and the active dissemination of research and innovation activity funded and delivered by InGAME, with an emphasis on archiving, preserving, and developing engagement with archival collections related to immersive experiences and video games.

**About the role**:
We need a Research and Development Fellow to work closely with the InGAME team, academic researchers, industry partners, archivists, digital preservation specialists, and especially with the management group and InGAME’s new creative content producers, in order investigate the potential for the preservation and archiving of immersive experiences.

You will be employed by the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law and the School of Art and Design at the University of Dundee and based in the Vision Building on The Waterfront in the City of Dundee in Scotland, with the InGAME project team. The post holder will report to Professor Christopher Murray (School of Humanities, Social Science and Law) and Professor Anita Taylor (Dean of the School of Art and Design) at the University Dundee, who are both Co-Directors of InGAME. You will work under the direction of Sean Taylor (Director of InGAME).

The Appointment will be offered on a fixed-term basis, with funding currently available until 30 September 2023.

Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Effective Communication - the ability to convey, explain or discuss information in a manner that is clear and accurate for the target audience. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills are required to enable the development of effective working relationships with colleagues.
- Liaison and Networking - active participation in, contribution to or leadership of internal/external networks which build positive relationships and promote collaborative/inter-disciplinary working. The ability to effectively work with both colleagues and students, and join external networks, to build positive relationships that support future collaboration.
- Initiative and Problem Solving - actively contributing to problem solving and responding positively to opportunities for development.
- Analysis and Research - the use and/or design of appropriate methods to actively engage in research and scholarly activities to investigate issues, analyse information and disseminate knowledge. The ability to write up research for publication and to effectively communicate new knowledge is required.

**Essential experience**:

- Further degree in relevant area (Masters Degree or PhD).
- An established research profile with identifiable outcomes and achievements.
- Experience of working in the digital environment and with archives, with an emphasis on digital preservation and curation.
- An ability to produce collaborative written outputs.

**Desirable**:

- PhD in relevant area;
- Experience with archives and digital preservation/curation.
- An ability to develop new insights from novel sources.
- Experience and skills in creative practice research.
- Competency in project management.
