**Economic Security and Supply Chain Resilience Directorate**

The Economic Security and Supply Chain Resilience Directorate is responsible for working across government to strengthen critical supply chains to improve the UK’s economic security and resilience. Critical supply chains within the scope of Directorate include water and wastewater chemicals, broadband network equipment, blood products and veterinary medicines alongside many others. The Economic Security and Supply Chain Resilience Directorate works closely with Departments to identify critical supply chain vulnerabilities to define strategies and policies for mitigating risks and improving resilience. Our work is increasing in importance as the UK addresses geopolitical challenges and adapts to achieve our Net Zero ambitions. Access to good data and analysis sits right at the heart of what we do.

**Insights & Analysis**

Insights & Analysis is a multi-disciplinary analytical team that sits in the Economic Security and Supply Chain Resilience Directorate. The team is the main analytical function for the directorate, providing high quality and timely monitoring and analysis on critical supply chains. The main functions of the team include mapping critical supply chains, analysing supply chain vulnerabilities and criticality, assessing the impacts of disruptive events and cross-cutting issues on critical supply chains, and operating and developing tools to monitor supply chain risks.

We are looking for a supply chain specialist to bring their detailed understanding and industry knowledge to our analytical work. We have an excellent team of analysts providing high quality outputs to a range of Government departments to build supply chain resilience. This relies on access to the latest supply chain expertise and knowledge from outside Government.

**Job description**:
**The Role**

The Supply Chain Specialist is responsible for providing expertise to support the assessment of existing and new critical supply chains, enabling the team to undertake end-to-end mapping, identification of risks and vulnerabilities, scenario testing, and development of mitigating actions that can improve resilience. They will provide industry expertise and support in engaging with businesses to enhance our mapping and understanding of supply chains. Their significant knowledge of supply chains will enable the team to scope, understand and deliver high quality supply chain analysis. They will provide coaching to broaden and deepen the team’s understanding of supply chains.

Reporting directly to the Head of Insights & Analysis (Grade 6), the postholder will work closely with the other analytical teams within the Insights & Analysis teams on various activities including supply chain mapping, vulnerability & criticality assessments, and monitoring. Alongside working closely with policy teams and industry to better understand and build knowledge around Supply Chains and identify areas to build greater resilience.

This role will be responsible for undertaking detailed analysis of a handful of chosen high-priority UK critical products aimed at identifying and mitigating supply chains risks. You will complete analysis including supply chain mapping, assessing vulnerabilities & criticality, analysing cross-cutting issues & topics; and informing Government policies & strategies with regards to the products being explored. This will be achieved through undertaking quantitative and qualitative analysis using various sources and engagements to assess new and existing supply chains.

Day-to-day activities will include, but will not be limited to:

- End-to-end mapping of supply chains, with engagements with relevant departments, industry, and sector teams within the department to gather data and insights.
- Supporting the identification of vulnerabilities and risks in UK critical supply chains, such as constraints in capacity in global and UK production, storage, transport, and distribution.
- Recommend practical mitigating actions that Government can undertake to reduce risks, for example diversification, stockpiling and building UK capacity and working closely with the business and policy teams to implement these.
