The Fusion Technology Business Unit is taking the UK’s fusion expertise into the age of power plant delivery. Across the Culham and South Yorkshire sites, we combine a suite of unique testing facilities and capabilities for advanced engineering. These are supported by our technical teams who deliver high-impact, world-leading research for both international and UK fusion programmes.
**Who are we looking for?**
We have excellent opportunities for motivated and enthusiastic graduates to join our two-year graduate scheme, this vacancy is for those interested in working in materials and technology. As part of our exciting scheme, you will spend 80% of your time developing both your general work-related skills and professional qualifications through working on department projects, with 20% of your working time dedicated to graduate training and development. UKAEA has a nurturing community that learns from each other.
Within the 20% training and development, there is a core suite of activities designed to develop your professional and business skills. Elements of this programme are flexible and can be tailored to your personal development needs and to those of your specific job role.
**What opportunities does the graduate scheme cover?**
**Applied Materials Technology Graduate** (positions are available for data scientists, physicists and engineers with a strong background in materials science and testing).The group is committed to assessing the through-life performance of engineering materials deployed in fusion plant. It drives innovation in materials testing and analysis, from sub-micron to component-level length scales, in some of the world’s most demanding environments.
**Manufacturing Technology Equipment Qualification Graduate** (relevant degrees include physics, engineering or other relevant science).The group undertakes research and testing projects for the development and qualification of novel component manufacturing solutions, in support of Tokamak projects. This includes assessment and NDE inspection of existing components as well as advancing the manufacturability of new component designs for future projects.
**Applied Radiation Technology Graduate** (relevant degrees include nuclear science, physics or other relevant science). Working in this exciting area, you will be provided with research projects where you will be expected to create and exploit models for fusion reactor systems and couple them in an integrated way to produce optimised power plant designs. You may also work on understanding the radiation environment in fusion devices, shaping the design and safety of future power plants
**Technology Development Graduate** (relevant degrees include Engineering or relevant science)
You will work in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists on a range of cutting-edge projects focused on developing fusion relevant technologies from proof of concept through to prototype demonstration. The wide range of projects in which we are involved will provide the opportunity to develop a technical understanding of topics with which you are unfamiliar, from a discipline not necessarily related to your degree.

Qualifications*
Essential*
- To be considered you will need to have successfully completed your degree within the two years prior to the scheme commencement in late Summer 2023.
- Suitable Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- IT literate, fluent in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint (Experience with Access and SharePoint desirable).
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good planning, organising and time management skills.

You will need to be self-motivated, demonstrate the ability to work well with others, and have an interest in the development of a cleaner energy. Additionally, you will be passionate about self-development and you should have a proactive approach to your work with an enthusiasm for achieving your full potential.
