**Job Introduction**

Metro brings news, sport, analysis, features, opinion, and everything in between to a fast-growing global audience and we're looking for the next hot shot social video whizz to join our London team as Deputy Head of Social Video.

You'll be joining a high-performing social video team at a crucial time of development as Metro's short form vertical video offering expands. Working alongside the Head of Social Video, you'll be responsible for helping to develop and implement short form video strategy across multiple verticals and platforms. A comprehensive understanding of the social video environment and the ability to adapt to changes within that ecosystem is absolutely crucial. You should be able to rip up a strategy and quickly build a new one for any video, format or platform when the occasion arises. Using data and analytics to inform decisions should be second nature.

You'll be responsible for line managing junior members of the team and providing long term development in addition to day to day management. By having your fingers on the pulse of online conversation, you will know exactly what stories need to be covered and how. You will guide junior members of staff in presenting compelling narratives and engaging vertical content.

**Role Responsibilities**
- Take charge of the team in the absence of the Head of Social Video
- Develop topline long and short-term strategy for video formats across TikTok, Facebook Video, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat
- Oversee and upgrade workflows, including forward planning for key events
- Help lead social video journalists across multiple verticals in creating engaging, creative and journalistically-strong videos that tap into algorithms and deliver strong numbers
- Ensure the development of junior team members via training and workshops
- Record KPIs and use that data to inform decisions on content and platform strategy
- Liaise with Metro stakeholders when required
- Work with editorial teams to ensure video output aligns with the overall strategy of the business
- Liaise with departments across the business to ensure the social video team has everything it needs
- Build and maintain good relationships within PR and social media platforms
- Understand legal covenants such as the UK Editors' Code of Practice, media law, copyright law and editorial guidelines in the UK and globally
- Help to build a strong Metro.co.uk voice across our video output

**Experience**
- 5+ years experience working in a newsroom or other relevant media environment
- Proven experience developing and executing successful data-led video and social media strategies
- Strong experience in creating engaging social video content, particularly on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok
- Deep knowledge of how TikTok and YouTube in particular operate
- Technical proficiency in multimedia technology including Adobe creative suite - knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro is vital
- Experience filming in studio and on location using cameras, lighting and audio equipment
- Experience managing a team and delegating tasks
- Experience collaborating with other desks within a busy newsroom
- Commercial experience is a bonus
