Countrystyle Recycling is a dynamic, family-run Waste Management and Recycling Company. We collect, handle, process, dispose and recycle almost all forms of waste. Our main facility, at Ridham in Sittingbourne, Kent, provides specialist services for the recycling of plasterboard, wood, mixed dry recyclables and the manufacture of RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel).

We have an opening for Head of Artics who will ensure the profitable and compliant operation of the Artic department in accordance with the Company’s overall corporate strategy.

**Responsibilities**:
To lead the Artic team and manage their continuous improvement through coaching and mentoring and supporting them in the achievement of their personal targets

To deliver the department P&L by:

- production and analysis of the daily vehicle productivity reports (VPR’s)
- identifying areas where improvements could be made in vehicle productivity and underlying profitability
- Reviewing all costs of the department
- Overseeing the timely and efficient processing of daily work tickets/weighbridge transactions including the allocation of work to sub-contractors
- Providing timely data to the Finance team including reconciliation of sub-contracted work to ensure this work is invoiced in a timely fashion
- Generation of purchase orders and invoice authorisation to ensure costs are accurately allocated
- Identifying and concluding sales opportunities for existing and new customers as needed to drive revenue/profit in association with the Sales and Commercial Teams
- Effective management of bonuses, overtime and night out monies

Ensure compliance of all Artic operations in accordance with all applicable permits, licences, permissions and regulations

Effectively manage and control all Artic third parties including sub-contractors in line with all Company policies and procedures to include but not limited to the Approved Contractors Register and insurance requirements

To lead or assist in key projects relating to Artic operations as delegated by the Board

To develop long-term partnership working arrangements with relevant customers and suppliers

To provide effective holiday/sickness cover for the role of Head of RoRo/Skips where required

Ensure that the Company’s Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) system is complied with in relation to operations to ensure retention of all ISO certification

Ensure Vehicles are presented on request for Planned Preventative Maintenance to be completed in line with all scheduled requirements, liaising with the relevant departments when necessary.

To assist with the development, and where relevant, the implementation of contingency plans where risks or threats have been identified

Lead and manage the implementation of all compliance issues relating to the Artic fleet

Ensure that all staff understand and have regard to their duty to take care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions at work

Ensure that staff co-operate, report unsafe conditions and comply with the Company management systems and safe systems of work as well as colleagues to help everyone meet their legal requirements

Ensure that all staff are fully trained, arranging refresher training as required, particularly in terms of driver CPC requirements

Monitor performance, timekeeping, attendance, holidays, overtime, nights-out, bonuses and sickness levels of individuals and action as necessary

Conduct absence reviews, disciplinary and grievance meetings as required and in line with Company procedures

Prioritise customers / sites when required, route vehicles accordingly and communicate with customers as needed

Proactively manage an effective interface between Countrystyle, waste/recyclable generating customers and end treatment sites

Managing a transport operation including route planning

Team building and leadership

Understanding of budgetary requirements

Dealing with employee relations issues

Reporting to and liaising with Director level appointments

A practical knowledge and mechanical understanding of truck and trailer operations

**Salary**: £58,000.00 per year
