A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join our team at the Stroke Pathway Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (SPARC), which is part of Sheffield's Integrated Community Stroke Service.

SPARC is a 31 bedded inpatient unit that provides excellent, patient centred care and rehabilitation for the stroke survivors of Sheffield.

As a Therapy Assistant Practitioner, you will work primarily with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Activity Co-ordinators and alongside the wider multidisciplinary team.

The successful post holder will contribute to the delivery of evidence-based therapy at an intensity to meet the needs of our service users.

There will be opportunities for the post holder to engage in exciting service development projects and staff training.

Work both autonomously and under the guidance of registered therapists to complete appropriate assessments.

Select treatment activities to enable progress towards patients’ goals, taking into consideration their condition and capability.

Deliver therapy on an individual, semi-supervised and group basis.

Complete assessment forms, document therapy sessions and complete referrals in line with Trust and local Therapy Services guidelines.

Evaluate patient progress and use your own judgement to make amendments to the treatment programme, within your scope of practice.

Accept clinical responsibility for your patient case load, prioritise and organise this efficiently whilst considering competing priorities.

To undertake therapeutic moving and handling of patients with/without equipment.

Assess for and order equipment to facilitate safe discharges.

Effectively communicate information to patients, carers and colleagues

Teach therapy techniques to carers including moving and handling, safe use of equipment, and management of the patient’s condition.

Provide patient motivation and empowerment.

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team ensure a integrated 24 hour rehabilitation approach is delivered.

Support and assist in the skill development of Therapy Assistants and Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Students.

Work within a legal framework for patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
