**Salary**: £32,348 to £34,308 with progression to £42,155 per annum

The Role

Here at Newcastle University we are passionate about helping people reach their potential. This role is all about managing our apprenticeship provision and maximising the use of our apprenticeship levy.

You will manage the University’s approach to apprenticeships and apprenticeship provision. This will involve producing an annual plan for maximising the use of the apprentice levy to fulfil the relevant University training and development needs. In delivering the plan the post holder will be responsible for an assessment of training needs in relation to apprenticeships, identification of suitable apprenticeship standards, developing and negotiating programmes and assessment, supporting apprenticeship recruitment and monitoring programme quality and completion. Creating and managing communication both within and outside the University in relation to apprenticeships will be a key to ensuring there is awareness and understanding about the opportunities.

Key Accountabilities
- Liaise with key stakeholders to understand training needs and to determine the apprenticeship requirements on an annual basis
- Manage the University wide apprenticeship programmes, including the recruitment / nomination process, induction and onboarding, mentoring allocation, monitoring of progress and quality of provision, arranging final assessment processes and celebrating completion
- Support the development of mentoring and coaching skills to support apprenticeship
- Working closely with colleagues in Organisational Development (OD) to design and manage appropriate programmes
- Negotiate with approved training providers to finalise programmes, ensure value for money and make sure all procurement and regulatory requirements are fulfilled
- Offer advice, support and guidance to Faculty and Professional Service colleagues who are responsible for apprenticeship provision to develop local plans for recruitment, development, management, assessment and quality for their programmes
- Create and manage information and communication through a range of vehicles, such as the internal and external webpages, recruitment advertising and social media
- Provide regular reports on progress and completion to relevant committees and meetings and liaise with colleagues in Finance to provide reports on apprentice levy spend
- Maintain the apprenticeship policy and processes, updating when required to reflect any changes in external requirements or through internal reviews
- Network externally, to gather and contribute to best practice within and outside of the sector, engage in regional and national working groups and trailblazer groups, representing the University and being an ambassador
- Work closely with colleagues within People Services /OD, sharing knowledge and best practice from work within the Faculties/PS to ensure the successful delivery and evaluation of OD/development activity/interventions
- Liaise with professional institutions and bodies, national/regional development and accreditation organisations
- To undertake any other duties in line with the University’s OD agenda as required

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Thorough understanding and experience of employing apprentices, utilising apprenticeship standards, eligibility criteria and the levy digital account
- Experience of working with external training providers, shaping apprenticeship programmes and negotiating on costs and expectations
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships across organisations
- Proven communication, influencing and negotiation skills
- Experience of utilising feedback and managing complaints, ensuring that both effective resolution and learning are prioritised
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritising conflicting demands, often within tight deadlines
- Experience of producing communication material including internal colleague communications and external recruitment campaigns
- Excellent IT, literacy and numeracy skills
