**Purpose of role**: We have a rare opportunity for an Assistant Consumer Editor to join our Consumer team

**Key accountabilities**:

- Help the Assistant Head of Consumer commission, edit and manage the Consumer team online day-to-day, helping to drive traffic and find new audiences
- Attend conferences and present the Consumer list to the digital editors
- Deputise for the Assistant Head of Consumer and Head of Consumer where appropriate
- Assist the Head of Consumer with campaigns which appear in print and online
- Commission freelancers to write exclusive news and features
- Write news and features for the newspaper and The Sun Money pages
- Help manage the Consumer department, develop talent and support the progression of staff

**Key Skills and Experience**:

- Experience of editing at a national newspaper or major organisation
- A deep knowledge of consumer, personal finance or business topics - and the contact book to back it up
- An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines with rigorous accuracy
- Able to commission content that attracts digital audiences
- A strong understanding of The Sun, with the ability to write brilliant headlines in the famous Sun style
- A deep knowledge of social media, SEO and online publishing
- Enthusiasm, imagination and a notebook full of ideas are all essential
- Being a self-starter is key - and you will need to thrive under the pressure of a busy newsroom
- Have a thorough knowledge of the IPSO Code of Conduct, media law and ethical considerations
